Significance of Troposphere in Determination of Weather Phenomena
- As altitude increases in the troposphere, temperatures decrease. This prevents water from leaving this layer of the atmosphere.
- Because of this, the troposphere holds 99% of the total mass of water vapor and aerosols in the atmosphere, making it the primary source of clouds that cause weather patterns.
- Unlike the troposphere, the stratosphere absorbs sunlight, which raises the temperature. Therefore, temperatures in the stratosphere increase as altitude increases.
- The stratosphere acts as a barrier that restricts vertical movement of winds, leading to weather events that only occur in the troposphere.
- In the troposphere, water evaporates from the surface of the Earth and is carried to other regions by the wind.
- When air rises, expands, and cools, water vapor condenses into clouds, creating an unstable atmosphere that results in precipitation.
- Weather patterns such as thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards are caused by global winds and fronts that occur in the troposphere.
The Troposphere is experiencing abnormal weather phenomena like heat waves due to shifting temperatures and weather patterns caused by climate change, as seen in recent events in Europe and India.
