Business Proposal – Wholesome and comforting K-Drama of the year – K-drama Review

Not like any other K-drama plot with a general love triangle, Business Proposal focuses on its two couples who share excellent chemistry.

With as many tropes it can portray, this rom-com with its light but entertaining package surely made the audience swoon and find comfort. Towards the end of its run, the Business Proposal was leading Netflix’s non-English series rankings and even made it to the second most-watched show on Netflix India.

When Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-Jeong), a food researcher, shows up in disguise in place of her friend Jin Young-Seo (Seol In-Ha) on a blind date with a marriage prospect, she is shell-shocked to find Kang Tae-Moo (Ahn Hyo-Seop), aloof and workaholic president of her company, as her date. She is soon knee-deep scheming the fake dating in order to hide her real identity and threat of losing her dream job when Tae-Moo is adamant to marry her and only her. And the romance is spiked up when Young-Seo falls in love with Tae-Moo’s Chief Secretary Cha Sung-Hoon (Kim Min-Kyu).

During the first few episodes, Se-Jeong’s acting as the disguised Geum-Hi who is rather widely inappropriate will make you laugh your soul out. Tae-Moo’s character during his interactions with Geum-Hi makes you compare Hyo-Seop’s Tae-Moo to the iconic Lee Young-Joon from What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, but only in the first half of the series.

The main lead will show you a very familiar trope of how the female lead’s actions melt the grumpy and standoffish heart of the male lead. Se-Jeong did an excellent job of acting both roles with ease. Hyo-Seop’s strides into his role with charm and elegance with an adequate amount of warmth.

The second lead is equally charming and definitely make themselves fan-favourite with their easy-going chemistry. Social media did swoon with the gifs and meme worthy moments of the second lead. I hope they create a show with them as a lead couple.

With all the romance, the makers brought out the friendship of female leads in the best way possible. The friendship between Ha-ri and Young-Seo shows a strong bond on-screen. While the male leads are shown in a suggestive bromance which will evoke a few hearty laughs.

The supporting cast, such as Tae-Moo’s grandfather Chairman Kang, did a great job in keeping the whole genre of comedy in place. The four main characters played their roles in a way that brought out the characters without limits.

Based on the webtoon of the same name (also called “The Official Blind Date”), the gradual progression of the show and its 12 episode show length makes it go-to watch and insta pick-me-up. The rom-com with its light plot but heavy chemistry between the characters will leave you for wanting more!

I suggest you binge-watch it now if you want some comfort K-drama on the way.
